1:00 pm Strong Gales and dark Cloudy Weather.

Monday, Aug. 4, 1788

4:00 am Hard Gales and thick Rainy Weather. In Top Sails

7:00 am Saw some Rock Weed

8:00 am  Portable Soup Issued for breakfast and dinner as usual. and the Weather being very uncomfortable and wet I ordered sweet wort to be got ready and served a pint to every Man & Officer at the Proportion of 1 Gallon of malt to 4 of Water.

12:00 pm At Noon Reefed the Courses being as much as I can possibly carry. A very strong Gale and thick Rainy Weather.
