Tuesday, Apr. 8, 1788

1:00 pm Fresh Breezes and thick Foggy Weather and Wets much. Tacked.

3:00 pm In 1st Reef of the Topsails saw a Pengwin.

6:00 pm Tacked.

8:00 pm Small Rain.

10:00 pm Wind freshening and a Dark Wet Night. In 2nd Reefs of the Topsails.

Wednesday, Apr. 9, 1788

2:00 am Strong Gales, Close Reefed and handed the Fore Topsail.

6:00 am Ditto Gales with a high Sea and Wet Weather, Close Reefed the Main Topsail.

10:00 am As I now consider myself in a fair Way, I determined to Stand no longer to the Southward but to make my Course as near to NW true as I can.

12:00 pm The Gale continues Strong and a high Sea with thick Rain and it is as much as I can carry Reef Courses & a close Reef Main Topsail.
