Tobin's Providence Logbook Dec 7, 1792

From Timor towards St. Helena

Remarks Friday December 7th 1792

 1 pm: Fresh breezes and fair weather – saw Sheerwaters, Pintada birds, porpoises, Albatrosses, and Carys Chickens

 4 pm: Cloudy

 5 pm: Worked the Pumps as usual – Shifted the Fore Top Mast Steering Sail to the Starboard side & the Ditto to the Larboard Side – at 8 some drops of Rain

11 pm: Shortened Sail for the Assistant to come up

12 mid: A steady fresh gale with clouds – made more sail

 2 am: Porpoises about the Ship

 6 am: Served thick portable Soup Gruel for breakfast

 7 am: In steering Sails the Assistant [dropping?] – Cleaned below and aired with fires – at 9 set steering Sails – Carpenters employed painting the Pinnace and Quick work on the Quarter deck – Sailmakers repairing the old Main Top Sail – People scraping the Quick work on the forecastle – Served Portable Soup in the Pease for dinner

12 noon: at Noon fresh Gale and fine weather with Haze – Assistant in Company
