Tobin's Providence Logbook Dec 6, 1792

[H M Ship Providence from Timor towards] St. Helena – 1792

Thursday December 6th

 1 pm: Moderate breeze and fine weather

 3 pm: Made the Assistants signal to come within hail – spoke her and found all well on board – Saw Whales & Porpoises

12 mid: Shortened Sail and sounded under Topsails 248 fathoms no ground – ½ past made sail & bore away the Course

 4 am: Fresh breezes and fine weather – all Sail set

 5 am: Cloudy weather – Saw Albatrosses, Pintadas, Sheerwaters & carys chickens

 7 am: Passed brown scum and a fin back whale, also Porpoises – Set the starboard steering Sails

 8 am: Served the usual breakfast – Sailmakers repairing Main Top Sail – Carpenters caulking and painting quick work – Up all Chests and bags and had a thorough clean below – Aired with brodie Stoves Served Krout and broached a puncheon of Spruce Beer – at noon Strong breezes and cloudy Assistant in Company
