Tobin's Providence Logbook Sep 21, 1792

 

Friday 21st September

 1 pm: Moderate breezes and fine weather

 3 pm: Saw Gulls & Boobies

 4 pm: Ditto Weather

 5 pm: At 5..40 spoke the Assistant – made the boats signals to return – At 6 hove too, in Boats & 2d Reefs

 8 pm: Fine clear weather

10 pm: In 3d Reef Main Top Sail

11 pm: Made the Signal, and wore every two hours, during the Night – The Assistant leading on each Tack

 4 am: Ditto Weather – Out Boats and sent them to ye Assistant

 7 am: Bore away – set Fore Sail & Main Top Gallant Sail

 8 am: Served the usual breakfast – Sailmaker employed as yesterday

10 am: Out all Reefs – saw Porpoises and flying fish – set the Fore & Fore Top Mast Steering Sail

12 noon: Moderate breezes and fine weather with haze – got the Best Bower anchor over the Gun whale [gunwale] – Served portable soup and Krout in the Pease for dinner – Assistant & Boats leading
