Tobin's Providence Logbook Sep 22, 1792

H M Ship Providence [1792]

Saturday 22d September

 1 pm: Moderate breezes and fine weather with haze
made more Sail

 3 pm: Saw brown scum and Rockweed on the water

 5 pm: Worked the Pumps as usual

 7 pm: Shortened Sail and in 2d Reefs – Spoke the Assistant – in Boats and hauled upon a wind

11 pm: Wore Ship every two hours during the night, the Assistant leading on each board

 5 am: Fresh Breezes and cloudy
At 40 minutes past 5 made all Sail and bore away

 8 am: Served the usual Breakfast and Krout as customary

 9 am: Fresh Breezes and fair weather some appearance of swells – Washed the Gun, Orlop, & Cockpit decks – Sailmaker making Skreens for the Plant House

10 am: A Porpoise was struck
At 10 made the Assistants Signal to steer WNW

12 noon: At Noon Fresh Breezes and fair weather
 Assistant leading
   Latitude Observed 9°..42′..13″ South
