H M S Providence Moored in Matavai Bay [Otaheite]

June 28-30 1792

Thursday 28th First part moderate breeze and fair weather middle part calm with a heavy dew falling – latter part moderate breezes & fair weather – A Fresh breeze from the Eastward with a light haze all these 24 Hours in ye offing PM Employed washing between Decks and in the officers Cabins with boiling water – Destroyed great Quantities of Cockroaches – AM Carpenters employed painting and sawing plank and repairing the whale boat – people employed in the After hold and making Mats – Served fresh Pork plantains &c – and received a moderate Supply

Friday 29th First part moderate breeze and fair weather middle part light breezes and fair latter part variable weather PM sent the cutter to Oparre to Trade for provisions – she returned with bread fruit and Yams – AM Carpenters employed painting, sawing plank & repairing the whale boat – People employed in the Main and after Holds, fixing slings for the small cutter and cutting boom Stuff sailmaker repairing the Launches Sails served fresh pork bread fruit plantains &c and received a moderate supply

Saturday 30 First part fresh breezes and fair weather middle part light airs and fair latter part fresh breezes and fair weather – first and middle part moderate breeze and fair from the Eastward in the Offing, latter part fresh gale & fair AM Carpenters employed painting sawing plank lining the ports, and repairing the whale boat – People employed in the Main hold and cutting broom Stuff – Sailmaker about the Launches Sails – Served fish Pork and plantains – received a moderate supply of Pigs and fruit
