H M Ship Providence Moored in Matavai Bay [Otaheite]

May 9-12 1792

Wednesday 9th Moderate breezes and fine weather – handed Sails at 9 Light Airs – AM Light Airs and calms at 6 Light Airs and fair weather – Sent plank on shore per Cutter – Cleaned below – People sp about the Rigging – Carpenters on the Launch and about the Green houses – Cooper making Borachios [Barricoes] Served fresh Pork &c – and received a Moderate Supply of Pigs &c – At Noon moderate breeze and fine weather

Thursday 10th Moderate breezes and fine weather – at 8 Light Airs and fair – AM Received a turn of water per Cutter – Cleaned below – Carpenters at the Green house – Cooper making Borachios [Barricoes], people about the Rigging andf in the Main hold – Served Fresh Pork Bread fruit Cocoa Nutts &c to the Ships Company and Received a moderate Supply – at Noon Light Airs and cloudy – Carpenters on shore about the Launch

Friday 11th Calm and cloudy weather – at 3 a Light Breeze from the Southward at 4 dark cloudy weather with Rain at 8 light breeze and cloudy – AM Calm – Carpenters about the Green houses and Launch Cooper makikng Borachios [Barricoes] – people about the Rigging – at 10 Light breeze – Served Fresh Pork Bread fruit Cocoa Nutts Tarra &c &c – & Received a moderate Supply – Read the Articles of War to the Ships Company, & Punished James Combes Drummer with 12 Lashes for having connexion with a woman while infected with the Venereal Disease At Noon moderate breeze and cloudy with a little rain

Saturday 12th Moderate breeze and cloudy weather – People employed about the Rigging – at 8 Squally at 9 Light Rain – AM moderate breeze & cloudy Received water per Cutter at 8 Light Airs & fair weather – Carpenters employed about the Launch and Building the Green houses – Cooper making Borachios [Barricoes] – Washed the Ship for and Aft – People employed washing and mending cloaths – At Noon moderate breeze and fine weather
