Tobin's Providence Logbook May 3-8, 1792

[H M S Providence Moored in Matavai Bay] Otaheite

May 3-8 1792

Thursday 3d Light Airs inclinable to Calm – Received water per Launch – AM moderate breezes and fair weather – Carpenters employed Caulking the Sides, and building the Green House – People in the fore hold about the rigging – Cooper making plant Tubs, and repairing Casks – Received a plentifull Supply of Fruit but few Pigs – Served Fresh Pork &c

Friday 4th Light breezes and fair weather – Sent 10 plant Boxes & 1 Puncheon on shore per Launch – AM moderate breezes and cloudy at 8 Light breezes and fair weather – Carpenters employed building the Green house & caulking the Sides – loosed Sails to dry – Served fresh Pork, bread fruit &c – and Received a moderate supply – At Noon moderate breezes and fine weather

Saturday 5th Moderate breezes and fine weather – Sent the Launch for water – people working in the fore hold & about the Rigging – AM Light breezes and clear weather – People washing and mending Cloaths Carpenters aulking the sides, and building the Green house – Sent the Launch to Oparre for Plants At Noon moderate breeze and fine weather – Served fresh Pork Bread fruit &c – and Received a moderate supply – Washed and cleaned Ship

Sunday 6th Moderate breeze and fine weather – people washing and mending Cloaths – Received water per Launch – at 8 Clear weather – AM Light breeze – at 8 moderate breeze and fine weather – Cleaned below – Mustered in Divisions and performed divine Service – at Noon moderate breeze and fair weather – Served fresh Pork, Bread fruit &c – & received a moderate Supply

Monday 7th Moderate breezes and fine clear weather – AM Light breezes and clear weather – Sent the Launch for water – Served fresh Pork &c – and received a Plentifull Supply – Sent the Launch on board the Assistant to sweep for something that had rubbed her Cable – she hooked a Large Tree, which they towed into deep water and swept again – Carpenters employed building the Green houses – People about the Rigging – At Noon moderate breeze and fair weather

Tuesday 8 Moderate breezes and fair weather – Sent the Launch on shore to be hauled up and [?] upon – at 8 a shower of rain – AM Light Airs and fair weather – Carpenters about the Green houses and at work on shore at the Launch – Cooper making [?] [Barricoes] People about the rigging Sent [?] on the Assistant – Served Fresh Pork &c – and received a moderate Supply At Noon moderate breezes and fine weather – loosed Sails to dry
