H M Ship Providence from Table Bay Cape of Good Hope [towards Adventure Bay Van Diemens Land 1792]

Tuesday January 31st

 1 pm: Moderate Breezes and cloudy weather

 6 pm: Fresh Breezes and cloudy – Saw Albatrosses Sheerwaters of different kinds, Silver Birds and Mother Careys Chickens – Let in fresh water and pumped it out again as usual – at 7 dark cloudy Sky took in the Steering Sails and 1st and 2d Reefs of the Topsails, handed the Mainsail – A high swell from the Westward, the Ship rolling deep

12 mid: At 12 Fresh Gales and Squally in 3d Reef Fore Top Sail

 2 am: Rain

 5 am: Dark cloudy weather – Set the Main Top Gallant Sail

 6 am: Out 3d Reef Fore Top Sail

 7 am: Flying Showers of Rain – handed Main Top Gallant Sail Served Thick Gruel with portable Soup for Breakfast; at 9 fresh Gale and cloudy Squally got down Main Top Gallant Yard and unbent the Sail to repair – In 3d reefs Fore & Main Top Sail Served Krout and sweet wort as usual

12 noon: At Noon Strong Gale and cloudy – Saw numbers of the same kind of Birds as yesterday
   No Observations
