Tobin's Providence Logbook Jan 27, 1792

H M Ship Providence from Table Bay Cape of Good Hope towards [Adventure Bay Van Diemens Land – 1792]

Friday January 27th

 1 pm: Moderate breezes and cloudy weather – at ½ past noon Shortened Sail, and sent the small Cutter on board the Assistant – they returned with Lieutenant Portlock at ½ past 1, in boat and made sail

 5 pm: Let in water, and pumped it out again

 6 pm: Shortened Sail, at ½ past 6 Sent the small Cutter on board the Assistant with Lieutenant Portlock – at 7 in boat, and made sail

12 mid: Light Airs inclining to Calm

 5 am: Fresh breezes and cloudy

 8 am: Served a breakfast to the People of thick gruel and portable Soup – and Krout and sweet wort as usual – Cleaned below and aired the Ship with fires – Exercised the Boats Crews with small Arms

12 noon: Fresh breezes and fair weather – The water very smooth But few Birds of any kind were seen to day
   Latitude Observed 39°..18′ South
