Friday December 23d 1791

 1 pm: Moderate and hazy weather

 2 pm: Arrived in the Bay H M Sloop Swan Captain John Elphinstone from England – she left Spithead September 16 – bound to [?] with Despatches – at ½ past 2 Weighed and came to Sail under Double Reefed Topsails – saluted the Fort with 15 Guns which was returned with an equal Number – Cheered the Snow and the Swan cheered us

 4 pm: at ½ past 4 passed by Robins Island – Stowed the Anchors – at 6 the Lions Head in one with the NW End of the Table Land S9°East NE End of Robin Island S16°East Westermost Land S25W

 7 pm: at ½ past 7 the Northermost Land NBE and the Westermost Land SBW¾W Robin Island SbE¼E distant 3 Leagues – at 8 the SW Land SbW and Table Hill SbE at 10 Squally in 3d Reef of the Fore and 2d Mizen Topsails

 2 am: at 2 AM Fresh Gales and with heavy Squalls and Head Sea In 3d Reefs Main and 4th Reef Fore Top Sail – at 5 Table Hill ESE¼S distant 10 Leagues – The Westermost Land SE – Saw a sail in the NW Standing to the Eastward

 8 am: at 8 More moderate out 3d Reef Main & 4th Fore Top Sail – Assistant in Company – Cleaned below [?] out 3d Reef Fore Top Sail – at Noon Fresh Breezes and Hazy Latitude Observed 34°..04′ South
