Tobin's Providence Logbook Oct 17, 1791

Log &c. of H M S Providence from Port Praya in the [Island of St. Iago towards the Cape of Good Hope – 1791]

Monday October 17th 1791

 1 pm: A Moderate Breeze and fine weather with a swell from the Southward

 4 pm: Saw several Sea fowl and flying fish

 8 pm: Fine open weather

11 pm: Heavy dew fell in the night

12 mid: Fresh Breezes and clear weather – shortened Sail for the Assistant

 3 am: Made Sail – The Tender in her Station

 4 am: A Fresh Breeze and fine weather shortened Sail for the Assistant

 7 am: Saw a Booby, a small Brown sheerwater and a few flying fish – made sail again – Washed the Gun deck, cleaned the Orlop and aired with fires – Served Vinegar, Bore coal, Portable Soup and Pearl Barley to the Ships Company

12 noon: At Noon fresh Breezes and fine open weather with a slight haze The Assistant in Company
   Latitude Observed 23°..49′ South
