Flinders's Providence Logbook Jan 8, 1793

Remarks ♂ [Tuesday] January 8th 1793 H.M.S. Providence

 1 pm: Fresh Trade and fair Weather

 2 pm: Sailmakers repairing the old Main Top Gallant Staysail.

 4 pm: Ditto Weather – Passed several Nautili

 5 pm: At 5 the Body of the Diseased was committed to the Deep, the burial Service read over him the the Captains Clerk, and the whole Ceremony was performed with great Decency, perhaps more so than is general on those Occasions.

 9 pm: At 9 Dark cloudy Weather with some light Drops of Rain – Took in the royals

 4 am: Fresh Breezes & Cloudy Weather

 5 am: Set royals – a Carey's Chicken seen and some flying Fish.

 8 am: Fair Weather

 9 am: Washed below fore and aft, destroyed many Cockroaches, which since coming into warm begin to make their Appearance in great Numbers – Exercised Great Guns

11 am: At 11 light Shower but before Noon it cleared up and we had a tolerable Observation

12 noon: Moderate Trade and fair Weather
