Flinders's Providence Logbook Oct 26, 1792

Remarks Friday 26th In the Indian Ocean – Homewards

 1 pm: Steady Fresh Gale and cloudy Weather The Sea much fallen

 2 pm: Saw several Tropic Birds

 3 pm: Unbent the best and bent the old Jibb

 6 pm: Took in the Lower Studding sails

 8 pm: Steady fresh Breeze and fine Night

 9 pm: A light Shower of rain from some black Clouds passing over

12 mid: Ditto Weather The Air cool and pleasant – Made and shortened Sail occasionally to keep the Assistant in her Station

 4 am: Took in the Top Gallant sails the Assistant being not able to keep ahead

 6 am: Saw some Tropic Birds
Got down Top Gallant yards to bend the old Sails

 8 am: Steady Gale and fine Weather Cleared between Decks and washed fore and aft destroyed many Cock roaches – Fires in the Cockpit Stoves – Sent up Top Gallant yards Bent the old Fore sail

11 am: People employed upon occasional Duty A Cask of Spruce Beer broached and given to the Ships Company instead of Grog this eing the Day to receive it – At Noon Fresh Gale & fair Weather Assistant in Company
