Flinders's Providence Logbook Oct 24, 1792

Remarks Wednesday 24th In the Indian Ocean Homewards

 1 pm: Strong Gales and thick cloudy Weather

 2 pm: Squally with small rain at Times – Third reefed the topsails and got down Top Gallant yards Saw a Tropic Bird and many Sheerwaters

 5 pm: Strong Gales high Sea, Ship rolling considerably and shipping some Water – Stowed the Whale boat in the Starboard Waist – Struck Top Gallant Masts Handed the Main sail – reefed the Fore sail – close reefewd the Fore and 3rd reefed the Main topsail At 8 Handed the Mizen topsail

12 mid: Dark cloudy Weather small rain at Times

 4 am: Ditto Weather

 5 am: Let the reef out of the Fore sail and two out of the Fore and Main topsails – Swayed up Top Gallant Masts and set the Mizen topsail

 8 am: Heavy Sea on the Larboasrd Quarter – People employed picking Oakum

10 am: The Wind rather moderating

11 am: Set the Fore topmast studding sail

12 noon: At Noon Fresh Gale and dark cloudy Weather the Sun seen thro the Clouds sometimes
