Flinders's Providence Logbook Sep 28, 1792

Remarks Friday 28th Towards Island Timor

 1 pm: Moderate Breezes and fair Weather

 2 pm: Employed in the Fore Hold and about the Cables – Cooper repairing Casks

 4 pm: Ditto Weather Saw Boobies and flying Fish

 5 pm: Before Dark – In Studding sails Top Gallant sails and 1st reefs – Spoke the Assistant – All well Found she had got Ground in 36 Fathom – Hove to and sounded in 40 Fathoms fine Sand

 8 pm: Moderate Breeze & fine Weather Lead constantly going – No Ground with 30 Fathoms

10 pm: At 10 Hove to and sounded in 47 Fathom Sand

12 mid: Ditto Weather Sounded in 54 Fathom fine Sand

 2 am: No Ground with 30 Fathoms of Line out

 4 am: Fresh Breezes & Cloudy – Hove to and sounded in 64 Fathoms Fine sand

 5 am: At 5..30 Hove to and sounded twice, but got no Ground with 107 Fathoms of Line – At 5:45 Bore up and made all Sail the Assistant leading – Saw a Flock of Birds of the Gull kind a Man of War Bird and Numbers of flying Fish

10 am: Cleaned between Decks and washed for and aft – destroyed many Cockroaches, but they still continue to increase upon us – Got the Cutter in board, the Carpenters repairing her – At Noon Moderate Breezes & fine Weather Assistant leading – Hove to and tried for Soundings with 107 Fathoms Line but got no Ground
