Bond's Providence Logbook Jun 17, 1793

Remarks &c Monday 17th June 1793

 1 pm: Fresh breezes and cloudy weather At 1 saw the Assistant in company with the Rochampton a dismasted ship, going to Bluefields to join convoy. Made the Assistant's signal to come within hail.

 3 pm: At 3 spoke the Assistant & sent a boat for Lieutenant Portlock. At 4 dark cloudy weather the wind shifted suddenly to the westward. Bore away, and in 2nd. reef Top Sails

 6 pm: At 6 heavy rain. At 8 fresh breezes and cloudy – carried a light all night

12 mid: Ditto Weather

 5 am: Bore up – strong squalls with heavy rain.

 6 am: In 3rd. reef Main and closed reefed Fore Top Sail

 8 am: At 8:30 saw land from the mast head bearing WbN, 4 or 5 leagues At 9 squally with heavy rain.

 9 am: At 9.30 exdtremes of Grand Caymana from WbS to NWbW off shore 8 or 9 miles. At 10.45 east end N8°W 2 miles from nearest shore.

10 am: Moderate breezes and cloudy, out 2ndfd. reef Top Sails and set Top Gallant Sails – Cleaned below, and got up all wet Clothes to dry. Canoes came off to the ship with several Turtle – a sail in the SE

12 noon: At Noon moderate breezes and cloudy, the Assistant, Antelope, Clementson, Thomas and Rochampton under jury masts, in company
