Bond's Providence Logbook May 2-4, 1793

Remarks &c moored in Port Royal

May 1793

Thursday 2nd. First and latter parts fresh gales and hazy weather middle part light airs and calms. AM. Sailmakers and Carpenters employed as occasion required. received 130 pounds of fresh Beef. Exercised Great Guns and small Arms – People making stoppers &c. for the rigging, and the Gunners preparing Breechings for 4 Guns expected from Kingston. Discharged 4 Prisoners into the Prison-ship; and entered one Volunteer

Friday 3rd. Fresh gales and hazy weather these 24 hours. PM entered one Volunteer. Arrived a sloop prize to the Marlborough private Armed sloop, commanded by Lieutenant James. Carpenters, Gunners, and Sailmakers as before. received fresh Beef. Arrived a sloop and Schooner, prizes to the Hyana – Made the signal accordingly, and a signal for a Messenger. Discharged 15 supernumeraries into H. M. Ship Europa, per order. Made ye signal for Weekly Accounts

Saturday 4th. First part fresh breezes and cloudy, middle part lightning in the NW. latter part heavy rain and lightning, fair at times. PM sent Alexander Taylor, Corporal Marines, to the Hospital. Made the Fly and Spitfire's signals for a Petty Officer. AM received 126 pounds of fresh Beef. People employed mending their Clothes. Cleared Hawse. At 10 read the Articles of War and punished John Curry, seaman, with 10 lashes for Drunkenness and neglect of Duty. Loosed sails to dry
