Bond's Providence Logbook Jan 8, 1793

Remarks &c 8th January 1793

 1 pm: Moderate breezes and fair weather Sailmakers employed repairing the Main Top Gallant Staysail.

 4 pm: Ditto Weather passed a Portuguese Man of War, so called by the Sailors.

 6 pm: Committed the body of the Deceased to the deep, with the usual ceremony. worked the pumps.

 8 pm: Fresh breezes and dark cloudy weather with light drops of rain – In royals.

10 pm: Cloudy.

 4 am: Ditto Weather

 5 am: Set royals – Saw flying-fish, & a Mother Carey's chicken.

 7 am: Served thick Portable Soup Gruel for Breakfast.

 8 am: Fair weather washed the Gun, Orlop, and Cockpit Decks and aired with fires. Exercised Great Guns. Sailmakers employed Served Sour Krout.

12 noon: Moderate breezes and fair
   Latitude Observed 0°.43′.30″ South
