Bond's Providence Logbook Sep 20, 1792

Remarks &c towards Timor, 20th September 1792

 1 pm: Fresh breezes and fari weather with haze – At 40 Minutes past Noon made ye Assistant signal to steer West – Several large Boobies flying near the ship – At 3 Hour.10 Minutes Assistant made ye signal to come within Hail and for the Boats to return on board – Spoke the Brig & Lieutenant Portlock came on board – At 4 Ditto Weather no Land in sight; a blue sea and some swell – At 5[?] returned to the Assistant: in Cutter. At 5.10 bore up at 30 Minutes, hove to. At 40 Minutes: wore ship and hoisted in the Whale boat. – Lightning to the westward

12 mid: Wore ship every hour during the night.

 4 am: Fresh breezes and cloudy

 5 am: At 5.30 hove too and lowered down the Boats – Sent them to the Assistant – At 6.20 bore up the Brig and Boats leading – Passed thro' large patches of brown Scum. Saw Gulls and a Heron – Made more sail (set steering sails)

 9 am: Moderate and cloudy, cleaned below

10 am: At 10 Hour.50 Minutes saw a Shoal in the NW – Sailmakers repairing the old Jib. Served the usual Breakfast and Sour Krout & Portable Soup in the Pease for Dinner

12 noon: Moderate breezes and fine weather Assistant and Boats leading
   Latitude Observed 9°·50′ South
