Bond's Providence Logbook Nov 8-11, 1791

Remarks &c at Table Bay at the cape of
Good Hope — Tuesday 8th November 1791

Moderate and fine weather. Employed tallying the running rigging and sails – Struck Lower Yards, & Top Masts, and got Top Gallant Masts upon Deck – Sent John Smith, William Grey, John Jacobs and Thomas [Bailis?] to Sick Quarters – Ditto Weather
At 5 AM heavy squalls with much rain – at 6 Moderate out Boats and sent for Fresh Mutton, Soft Bread, and Greens – Stripped Top Masts. – Employed starting salt water. Moderate and fine, but cloudy weather.

9th November Moderate and cloudy weather overhauled and tarred the Top Mast rigging – rigged Top Masts and employed in the after hold. At [6?] fine clear weather with Moderate breezes – saw a ship in the officer – received Mutton, soft Breast &c. Employed about the rigging and in the Fore Hold – A Dutch Indiaman and French ship left the Bay – Fresh breezes and fair weather.

Thursday 10th November – Fresh gales and heavy squalls off the land. Employed about the rigging – Hard gales and clear weather roused up a range of the sheet cable. Carpenters employed caulking the Gun Deck – Fresh breezes, received on board Mutton Bread, & Greens as usual. Employed blacking Yard.

Friday 11th – Fresh gales and clear with heavy squalls off the land. Sent on shore a Master's Mate, [Med?] Corporal with 3 Marines, Cooper and one Seaman; and erected a Tent for our Casks – People employed on onboard about the rigging, and blacking the Yards &c. Ship's draught of water – Foreward 13 feet:09 Inches – Abaft 15:09 – Moderate weather – received Mutton, Bread &c. Sent some empty casks to the Tent – Moderate and fine weather
