Providence Logbook Mar 17, 1792

Remarks Saturday 17th March 1792 Towards Otaheite

 1 pm: Fresh Breezes and Cloudy Weather. The Sun to be seen at times which enabled me to get a few sights for the Variation but no other

 4 pm: A few Albetrosses and Sheerwaters seen and a patch of Weed —

 7 pm: Let fresh Water into the Ship and Worked the pumps as usual. —

 8 pm: Light Winds with flaws at times as come off from Land.— Some luminous blubbers on the Water.–

12 mid: Wind seldom steady to three points

 1 am: Fires all Night to Air the Ship.

 3 am: Small Rain at times.–

 5 am: Dark Cloudy Weather and light Airs.–Up Top Gallant Yards. Out Reefs.—

 8 am: Served thick Portable Soup Gruel for breakfast. Krout and Sweet Wort as customary

10 am: Cleaned and Aired below with Fires. and Washed all dirty linnen.—

12 noon: Very Cloudy Weather with bright intervals
  Assistant in Company.
 This Wind hangs so like a Trade that I dare not Steer more to the North.—
  Greased the Masts &c &c
