Providence Logbook Jan 7, 1792

Remarks Saturday 7th January 1792 [Towards Van] Diemans Land

 1 pm: Moderate Breezes and Cloudy Weather

 2 pm: Exercised Great Guns and Small Arms

 4 pm: Swell increasing from the WSW

 8 pm: Squalls of light Rain. In Top Gallant & Main Top Mast Studding Sails.

10 pm: In Fore Steering Sail

11 pm: In Fore Topmast Ditto.

 2 am: Wind increasing. In 2nd. Reefs

 4 am: In 3rd. Reefs

 8 am: Strong Gales and fair Weather with much Sea
Close Reefed the Tops and got down Top Gallant Yards
A Sea broke in the Larboard Quarter Gallery —

10 am: Cleaned and dried below & got all Wet Cloaths on deck to dry. —

12 noon: Ditto Weather. Assistant in Company and makes very good Weather of it —
  The dutch speak of an Island called Nachtagal in the Latitude 40°..40′ S. and nearly in the Longitude of 54°..00 East.
