Mr. Nelson continues very Ill. He is most carefully attended by Mr. Max and Mr. Ledward our own Surgeon. On the 10th. the Carpenter taken ill of a Fever. Chinese at work about the Schooner but go on exceedingly slow.

On Sunday I performed Divine Service in the morning, and in the afternoon I went to church where the Service was performed by a Malay. The Congregation were nearly 50 persons most of whom were Malays.

This little place of Coupang is governed by an Opperhooft and Raad, which is a Governor and Council. The Council consists of the Second Governor or Secunde as he is called. The Doctor, Secretary and Officer of the Troops. Before them all cases are tryed but things of a Criminal nature are determined at Batavia. Their courts are held in the Castle where are also the Companys[*] Stores, Hospital and Barracks.
