Bounty Logbook Jul 8-9, 1789

Remarks at Coupang Wednesday 8^th. to Thursday 9^th. July 1789.

Fresh Easterly Winds and Fair W^r. Emp^d. about the Sails & Rigging of the Resource.

A Chinese Prow about 20 Tons came in about ⅔ loaded with Sandle Wood and Wax for which they barter with Iron Work and Fire Arms. As I have already mentioned the Bees build their nests in the Branches of Trees or Bushes to which the natives cannot approach but by Fire so that the Swarms are numerous that they destroy. The Honey is put into Jars and the Wax is run into Blocks that are about 3 feet long and a foot or 15 Inches Square.

M^r. Nelson imprudently leaving off some warm cloathing caught cold and had an attack of a Fever.
