Light Winds Calms and very Cloudy Wr. Wind all round the Compass. Thermr. 80° to 81½°.
Employed cleaning Ship and Bedding. Sick List as yesterday. I employed myself to day principally in completing my Survey, which will however take me a few days more, as to be exact requires absolute measurement, the angles on the Coast not being sufficient with few determined Bases to establish the whole with certainty. This Survey that it may be usefull to those who may come after me, I shall complete between Point Venus and the West point of Taowne Harbour.
Our supplies and intercourse with the Natives are just the same and I have the happiness of situation to see them take a melancholy prospective View of our departure.
Most of the Royal family dined and spent the day on board. After breakfast or dinner we all adjourn to our different occupations without ceremony, and in this particular they are to be the most admired people in the World. When we walk about the country all their Houses are open to us and we are wellcome to all they have, but let their curiosity be what it will they never wish to turn our pursuit, so that after we have paid our visit either from convenience necessity or inclination we leave them without ceremony, for after the little conversation we have to impart, or that we have eat or drank our fill and intimate an Idea of leaving them, they say, where are you going? and on being satisfyed they say, Go, and we leave them with a similar expression of, "Good bye to you". The salutes on parting are Arre oh wai, are you going to leave us, the answer is, Ai or Yes joined with Nee oh ai, we must part or
