Strong Gales & Rainy. Empd in the Main Hold to get the Iron Stocked Anchor up for a Sheet Anchor and putting Coals in the Cole Hole. Boatswain about the Rigging. Served Fresh Meat & Greens &ca as usual. Received Plank for the Carpenter.

Strong Gales & Rainy with Lightning & Thunder. Carprs empd refitting the Dead lights. Began to water the ship. Served Fresh Meat &ca as before. Seeing the Wr. so unsettled & the impossibility of my own Carpenters completing the necessary work to be done; I therefore hired four Caulkers who were also Shipwrights @ one Spanish Dollar pr. Day and ordered them off.

Fair Wr. but at times a little Squally. Four Artificers empd from the Shore & our own Carpenters at work repairing the lining & [Cards?] of the Bends & Caulking. Reced. on board a Craft load of Stone Ballast in lieu of Coals expended. Empd in the Hold & about the Rigging. Reced. and served fresh Meat as usual.

Fair Wr. with some Squals of Rain in the latter part. PM Sailed the French Pacquet for Europe by which I sent letters to the Lords of the Admiralty. Carprs. & Artificers from the shore as yesterday. Armourer & Cooper on shore on their Necessary duties. Sailmakers empd on board. Served Fresh Meat & Greens as usual.

Fair Wr. Got yards & masts an End. & employed completing the Rigging and in the Hold. Four Artificers from the shore & our Carpenters empd as before. Cooper & Sailmrs also empd. Reced Fresh Meat & Greens as before.
Wednesday11NWly. Fair Wr. Artificers Empd as yesterday. In the Hold Painted lower Masts Blocking where necessary. Sailmakers, Cooper & Amourer as before. Sailed a Dutch Mercht Ship for Batavia. Served Fresh Meat & Greens as usual. Reced Plank for the Carpenters.

Cloudy Wr. with some Rain. Artificers from the shore & our Carpenters as before. Empd. in the Hold and watering. Hands knotting yarn. Sent the Powder on shore to Air, having received much injury from the bad Weather we have experienced. Cooper empd repairing the Casks and Sailmakers the Sails. Served Fresh Meat and Vegetables as ususal.
