Outfit books, published by chandlers or establishments selling charts and nautical books, were shopping lists for those preparing whaling vessels for sea. The publication transcribed here was published in New Bedford by Taber Bros. and was issued in several versions during the last half of the nineteenth century. The source for this transcription was used by the Bark Triton in 1876. It contains pages of annotations for items and quantities needed (or used). Many of these annotations list items not included in the outfit book.
