Bounty Logbook Remarks, Nov. 24, 1788

Remarks in Matavai Bay Monday 24th November 1788

Moderate and fair Weather. Wind at EBN and EBS and the Thermometer from 85° to 83°

One Man in the sick list, and recovering. I have found my sick people receive great benefit from a milk diet, particularly those who had the Cholera Morbus, and to enable me to do this I bought several Milch Goats and at a less price than a middle sized Hog.

A very great swell has set into the Bay from which I have been expecting the Wind from the Westward, but I now find it is owing to a NNE wind that has been blowing at Sea.

I bought a Turtle to day that was caught on the Reefs, and as Tynah was going to take leave of me for two or three days, having taken up all his time while I have been here, it was dressed for his dinner and I had a large company on the occasion. I now learnt that Oberreeroah was arrived from Tetturoa at Oparre and as Tynah could make no longer stay with me, he requested I would send my boat for her in the morning and take care of her untill he returned. As I readily assured him I would he left me in good spirits. Accordingly in the morning I sent the Boat to Oparre and I was employed the course of the day in making observations.

We began shifting the bad Plants, and the whole replaced since we began, amounted to 150. Most of those were found growing at the Roots.
