Monday, Oct. 13, 1788

1:00 pm Fresh Breezes and Cloudy Weather.

2:00 pm In 1st Reefs.

6:00 pm Saw two Birds like what are generally called Sand Larks.

8:00 pm Fair Wather and tolerably free of Clouds untill 9 Which enabled me to get a set of Observations West of the ☽ but none to the East.

Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1788

12:00 am Tacked.

1:00 am A Good look out is always kept from the Mast Head but nothing like land could be seen.

3:00 am However I was not mistaken as to the Birds as they came repeatedly within 20 Yards of me.

5:00 am Having now three Men Complaining of Rheumatism, and fearing it may be Symptoms of a Scorbutic Complaint, I Ordered their Salt Provisions to be Stopt & flour given in lieu, and served each ⅔ of a pint of the decoction of Essence of Malt.

10:00 am Fair Weather and Cloudy. Exercised Small Arms & fired as Yesterday.

11:00 am Saw a Tropic Bird, and some Fish.

12:00 pm Under all Sails by the Wind.
