In False Bay Cape of Good Hope

Strong Gales & Rainy with Lightning & Thunder. Carpenter employed fitting the Dead lights. Began to water the ship. Served Fresh Meat &c as before. Seeing the Weather so unsettled & the impossibility of my own Carpenters completing the necessary work to be done; I therefore hired four Caulkers who were also Shipwrights at one Spanish Dollar per Day and ordered them off.
