Bounty Logbook Remarks, May 2, 1788

Thursday, May. 1, 1788

1:00 pm Fresh Gales and Cloudy Weather which soon Moderated, and the Wind became Variable and Squally with Rain.

6:00 pm In 1st Reefs.

8:00 pm Fresh Gales close reefed the Topsails. Rainy Weather.

Friday, May. 2, 1788

1:00 am Hard Squalls & Rain. Handed Fore Topsail.

2:00 am Lightning in the NW & NE.

4:00 am Strong Gales and Rain.

8:00 am Moderate out Reefs & make more Sail but Still dark Gloomy Weather with Squalls & Rain. Our Principal duty drying Cloaths & cleaning and airing below with Fires.

11:00 am Served Sweet Wort as usual.

12:00 pm Fresh Breezes & unsettled Weather with Rain at times & much Sea from the Southward.
Large Flocks of the small Blue Peterel & some brown Albatrosses about us. One Whale seen.
