[H M Ship Providence from St Helena] towards St. Vincents – 1793

Wednesday January 16th

 1 pm: Fresh breezes and fine open cloudy weather

 3 pm: Saw flying fish and a bird about the Size of a Gull

 5 pm: Set the Fore Top Mast Steering Sail

 7 pm: Cloudy weather

10 pm: In Fore Top Mast Steering Sail

12 mid: Fresh breezes and cloudy

 4 am: Strong breezes

 5 am: Set the Fore Top Mast Steering Sail

 7 am: Served thick portable Soup gruel for breakfast – Cleaned below and aired with fires – Exercised great guns and fired with small Arms – at 10 Set the Lower and Fore Top Gallant Steering Sail

11 am: Sb portable Soup in the Pease for dinner

12 noon: Fresh breezes and fine weather with haze
