Tobin's Providence Logbook Oct 20, 1792

[H M Ship Providence from Timor towards St. Helena] – 1792

Saturday October 20th

 1 pm: A Fresh Gale and cloudy weather

 2 pm: Saw Men of war birds and Sheerwaters in a flock

 4 pm: Worked the Pumps as usual

 7 pm: Dark cloudy weather – in Steering Sails and 1st Reefs – Fitted a new strop for the Fore Top Sail Tye block which had given way – Saw many porpoises & a large Shark

12 mid: Ditto Weather

 5 am: Fresh Gale and fair weather – set Steering Sails – Served the usual Breakfast – Up all Chests and Bags and washed well below – Sluiced the Beams &c &c to kill cockroaches. Aired with fires – Sc Krout – Strong Gales In steering Sails and 2d Reefs – Carpenters & Sailmakers employed as before

12 noon: Heavy Gale and fair weather Assistant in Company
   Latitude Observed 12..30..57 South
