Tobin's Providence Logbook Oct 18, 1792

[H M Ship Providence from Timor towards] St. Helena – 1792

Thursday Thursday [sic] October 18th

 1 pm: Fresh breezes and cloudy weather – Saw a man of war bird

 5 pm: Worked the Pumps

 6 pm: Hauled down the Lower Steering Sail & in 1st Reefs

12 mid: Cloudy weather with sudden puffs of wind – In Fore Top Mast Steering Sail

 3 am: Set the Fore Top Mast Steering sail

 4 am: Heavy swell from SW Quarter

 5 am: Saw numbers of flying fish – Served thick portable Soup gruel for Breakfast

 7 am: Fresh breeze and fair weather – Cleaned dry below & aired ship with fires – Served Krout – Portable Soup in the Pease for dinner – Saw Rock weed and porpoises – out 1st Reefs People working up junk – Carpenters making alterations in the plant house – Sailmaker about Skreens for it – At Noon fresh breezes and fair weather with Haze
