Tobin's Providence Logbook Oct 17, 1792

H M Ship Providence from Timor towards [St. Helena – 1792]

Remarks Wednesday October 17th

 1 pm: Moderate breeze and fine weather

 2 pm: Carpenters employed making alterations in the plant house – Sailmakers repairing the Fore Top Mast Staysail – Saw Porpoises

 4 pm: Worked the pumps as usual

 7 pm: In Royals and Top Gallant Steering Sails – Spoke the Assistant – Fresh breeze & fair weather

10 pm: Hauled down the steering Sails & in 1st Reefs

12 mid: Cloudy

 5 am: Out Reefs and set Steering Sails – a Cross Sea from the Southward – Served thick portable Soup gruel for breakfast – at 8 a moderate breeze & fair weather – cleaned below and aired with fires – Served Krout as usual, & portable soup in the Pease for dinner

10 am: People working up Junk – Carpenters making alterations in the plant house – Cooper making Tubs for Plants – Moderate breeze & fair weather
