Tobin's Providence Logbook Aug 25, 1792

H M Ship Providence from Matavai Bay [Otaheite towards Timor in the East Indies – 1792]

Remarks Saturday 25th

 1 pm: Fresh breezes and fair weather – exercised the Marines with small Arms

 4 pm: Ditto Weather People employed fitting new Buoy ropes Saw a flock of Birds among them Men of War, Boobies and a small kind of brown sheerwater

 6 pm: Worked the Pumps – at ½ past 6 made the Assistants Signal to come within hail – spoke her and found all well on board

 7 pm: at 7 In steering Sails and 2d Reefs Top Sails

12 mid: Ditto Weather The Assistant leading a head with a light

 4 am: Dark flying clouds with light squalls of wind

 5 am: Out Reefs and made all Sail

 6 am: Saw Men of War and tropic birds

 7 am: Served thick portable soup gruel for breakfast – at 8 a strong breeze and fair weather washed the Gun, Orlop, and Cockpit decks – destroyed numbers of Cockroaches
These vermin have increased so as to be very troublesome in the Ship

11 am: Unbent the old and bent the new Main Top Sail People washing and mending cloaths

12 noon: At Noon a fresh breeze and fair weather Served sour Krout
   Latitude Observed 13°..19′ South
