Tobin's Providence Logbook Aug 24, 1792

[H M Ship Providence from Matavai Bay Otaheite] towards Timor in the East Indies – 1792

Remarks Friday August 24th

 1 pm: A Moderate breeze and fair weather

 4 pm: Saw Boobies and Tropic birds, & other birds of the sheerwater kind

 6 pm: Worked the Pumps

 7 pm: at 7 In steering Sails and 2d Reefs Top Sails

 9 pm: Moderate breeze and fine clear weather

12 mid: Ditto Weather Under an easy Sail the whole night, the Assistant leading a head with a light

 3 am: Boobies and Noddies about the Ship

 4 am: Ditto Weather

 5 am: Fresh breezes and clear weather – out Reefs & made all Sail – Saw Men of war and tropic birds – Served thick portable Soup gruel for breakfast

 9 am: Cleaned below and aired with the foremost stove – Exercised the Boats crews with small Arms – Sailmaker repairing the Main Top Gallant Sail

10 am: Passed the branch of a tree

12 noon: At Noon strong breeze and fair weather Assistant in Company
   Latitude Observed 13°..33′ South
