Tobin's Providence Logbook Jul 30, 1792

H M Ship Providence from Matavai Bay Otaheite [towards Timor in the East Indies – 1792]

Remarks Monday July 30th

 1 pm: Light breezes and fair weather at ¼ past 1 hove too & sent the whale boat on board the Assistant for Lieutenant Portlock – at ¾ past made sail again

 5 pm: Worked the pumps as usual

 6 pm: At 6 hove too, sent the Whale boat on board the Assistant with Lieutenant Portlock – at ½ past she returned – hoisted her in and made sail

11 pm: Very fine clear weather Air cool

12 mid: Light airs

 7 am: Out 1st Reefs of the Topsails – Saw Tropic birds – Cleaned below – served portable Soup gruel for Breakfast Bore cole & portable Soup thickened with Oatmeal for Dinner

11 am: Sailmaker repairing the Quarter deck awning and the old Fore Top Sail, people fitting the new foresail – Cooper making Tubs for Plants Carpenters repairing the Large cutter –
Served Vinegar to the Ships Company
A Whale was seen

12 noon: Light Airs and cloudy weather Assistant in Company
   Latitude Observed 19°..01½′ South
