Tobin's Providence Logbook Jul 23, 1792

[H M Ship Providence from Matavai Bay Otaheite] towards Timor in the East Indies – 1792

Monday July 23d

 1 pm: Light breezes and fair weather – shifted the Ships company hammocks – Saw flying fish and a tropic bird

 6 pm: Worked the pumps as usual

 8 pm: Moderate breeze and clear weather – in Lower steering Sails, and the Larboard Fore Top Mast and Top Gallant steering sail

12 mid: Cloudy in starboard Fore Top Mast steering sail

 4 am: Light Airs inclining to calm

 5 am: scrubbed the 1st Divisions Hammocks

 7 am: Saw tropic birds

 8 am: People employed unsplicing the outer Best Bower cable and splicing it to the inner small Bower – two cables remain on each Bower – Served fresh pork and plantains – Carpenters repairing the small cutter – At Noon nearly calm – Assistant in Company
