Tobin's Providence Logbook Jul 11-13, 1792

H M S Providence Moored in Matavai Bay Otaheite

July 11-13 1792

Wednesday 11 First and middle part moderate breezes & fair weather – latter part fresh breezes and fair weather – PM received 3 turns of water per Launch – The other boats bringing on board wood – compleated the Main and after holds – AM people employed in the for hold, staying the Masts and setting up the rigging – The Carpenters compleated the plant stand in the After cabin – Armourer working at the forge – cooper repairing casks – served fresh Pork &c and received a moderate supply

Thursday 12 First part moderate breeze and fair weather – middle part light airs and fair, latter part fresh breezes and cloudy at times – PM compleated the fore hold – cutter employed bringing wood – people employed reeving the running rigging and preparing for bending Sails – Saluted King Otoo on his arrival at Matavai with 7 Guns – AM Carpenters variously employed, people bending Sails and clearing decks – Armourer working at the forge – served fresh pork bread fruit plantains &c and received a moderate supply

Friday 13 First part fresh breezes and fair weather middle part fresh breezes with squalls, latter part fresh breezes and dark cloudy weather with hard showers of rain at times – PM roused up the Best Bower cable to stow plank under it – received a turn of wood per Launch – Employed stowing Casks &c &c in the Gun Room – AM people employed clearing away the Officers Cabins to wash with boiling water – Carpenters variously employed – Armourer taking down the forge – served fresh pork bread fruit &c – and received a moderate supply
