[H M S Providence Moored in Matavai Bay] Otaheite

May 27-29 1792

Sunday 27th First part fresh breeze and fair weather – middle part cloudy with heavy showers of rain and Squalls – latter part moderate breeze and heavy rain – at Noon a moderate breeze from the Eastward in the Offing with fair weather – people employed scraping the Quick work – Sailmaker repairing the Main Top Sail Carpenters at the Launch – Sent a party to haul the Sine but they met with no success – Sent the Small Cutter to Oparre for Provisions – Served fresh pork &c – & received a few Cocoa Nutts & some Mahie – Armourer at the Forge *(Monday)

Monday 28 First part fresh breezes and fair weather   * Sunday
middle part cloudy, latter moderate and fair weather – PM people washing and mending cloaths – Sailmakers repairing the Main Topsail – Carpenters at the Launch – AM Received water per Small Cutter – Washed the Gun, Orlop and Cockpit Decks – Mustered the Ships Company in Divisions and performed devine Service – Served fresh Pork Cocoa Nutts &c as usual, and received a moderate Supply A Party on leave as usual on this day

Tuesday 29th First part moderate breeze and fair weather – middle part clear weather with Squalls from the Land – latter part Light Airs and fair weather – a moderate breeze from the westward in the Offing – The Small Cutter returned with plantains and Tarra – people employed Scraping the Quick work – looking dirty to the Westward overhauled a range of the Sheet Cable – AM payed down the Cable people employed about the Rigging Got down the Fore Top Gallant Mast Carpenters employed about the Launch and repairing the Orlop Deck Hatches – Armourer working at the forge Sailmakers repairing the Foresail Received on board the Main sail from the Tent – Served fresh Pork plantains &c to the Crew – received a very moderate Supply
