Tobin's Providence Logbook Mar 3, 1792

[H M Ship Providence from Adventure Bay Van Diemens] Land towards Otaheite in 1792

Saturday March 3d

 1 pm: Moderate Breezes and clear dry weather

 2 pm: Saw a Penguin and a quantity of Rock weed

 4 pm: Fresh Breezes and cloudy saw Rocs weed

 6 pm: Let in fresh Water and pumped it out again as usual

 7 pm: At 7 In Steering Sails and 1st Reefs Topsails – Up Main Sail

10 pm: Fresh Gale and cloudy with light drizling Rain – In Top Sails

12 mid: Squally in 2d Reefs

 4 am: Fresh Gales and cloudy set Top Sails and Main Sail

 7 am: Out 2d Reefs. Served thick Gruel and portable Soup for Breakfast and Krout and wort at five Bells – Cleaned Below & aired with fires – Saw Albatrosses, Silver Birds, Mother Careys Chickens, Sheerwaters of different kinds and some Cape Hens – Sailmaker repairing the Main Top Sail – Served Mustard to the Crew

12 noon: At Noon Fresh Breezes and cloudy
