Tobin's Providence Logbook Nov 5, 1791

[Log &c. of H M S Providence from Port Praya in the Island] of St. Iago towards the Cape of Good Hope in 1791

Saturday November 5th 1791

 1 pm: Moderate and cloudy weather

 4 pm: Got up all Bags, scrubbed and cleaned them

 6 pm: Fresh Breezes and cloudy handed the Mainsail – Saw a Cape Hen – Some whales, Albatrosses, Pintada Birds and different kinds of Sheerwaters

10 pm: Fires all night to air Ship

11 pm: Cloudy

12 mid: Moderate Breezes and cloudy

 2 am: Dark to the NW with drizling rain – frequent Squalls made & shortened sail as necessary for the Tender

 5 am: Drizling rain – saw Sea Birds of different kinds and some Spermaceti Whales

 8 am: Cloudy – Washed the Gun deck and cleand the Orlops – Aired with fires – Caulkers employed on the Gun deck and Carpenters overhauling the Windlass

11 am: Saw a [Sago?] Sun fish

12 noon: Moderate and Hazy Assistant in Company
   Latitude Observed 33..48 South
