Tobin's Providence Logbook Nov 3, 1791

[Log &c. of H M S Providence from Port Praya in the Island of] St. Iago towards the Cape of Good Hope in 1791

Thursday November 3d

 1 pm: Moderate Breezes and fine fair weather with a [?] swell – Saw a number of Albatrosses and different kind of Sheerwaters – Up Top Gallant Yards and let the 3 Reef out of the Fore and 3d & 4 Reefs out of the Main Topsail – at 3 set the Staysails

 6 pm: [?] and [?] Ropes

 9 pm: Fires all night to air Ship

11 pm: Cloudy weather made & shortened Sail occasionally for the Tender

 3 am: Light Breezes and fine weather

 4 am: Saw a Large Grampus

 6 am: A swell from the Southward

 8 am: Washed the Gun deck and cleaned the Ship fore and aft

10 am: Saw a Cape Hen – Mother Careys Chicken & Pintada Birds

11 am: Set Steering Sails and Royals

12 noon: Light increasing Breeze and fine weather
   Latitude Observed 31°..55′ South
