Tobin's Providence Logbook Oct 30, 1791

[Log &c. of H M S Providence from Port Praya in the Island of St. Iago] towards the Cape of Good Hope in 1791

Sunday October 30th 1791

 1 pm: Moderate Breezes and fine weather cloudy – a Southerly swell

 3 pm: Saw several Pintada Birds Sheerwaters and Albatrosses

 5 pm: Read the Articles of War to the Ships Company, and Punished John Letbie Quarter Master with 2½ Dozen Lashes for insolence to, and striking his superior Officer

11 pm: Fires all night to air Ship

 2 am: A Luminous appearance on the Water at different periods in the night

 9 am: Washed below and aired Ship with fires

10 am: Mustered the Ships Company in Divisions

11 am: Captain Bligh read the morning prayers to the Ships Company

12 noon: Fresh Breezes and cloudy – Latitude Observed 28°..59′ South
