Log &c. of H M S Providence from Port Praya in the [Island of St. Iago towards the Cape of Good Hope in 1791]

Tuesday October 25th

 1 pm: Moderate breezes and fine weather

 2 pm: Saw an Albatross and several Sheerwaters – Armourer working at the Forge – Shortened Sail for the Assistant

 8 pm: Thick drizzly rain The Assistant in her Station

11 pm: More clear

 3 am: Squally and breeze increasing suddenly In steering Sails & Top Gallant Sails and 2d Reefs Main & Fore Topsail

 4 am: Fresh Gale and cloudy

 5 am: at 5 In 3d Reefs Fore Topsail

 7 am: at 7 rainy saw a Grampus and several Mother Careys Chicken

10 am: Cleaned below and aired with fires – Out 2d Reefs

11 am: Saw several Sea fowl

12 noon: Fresh Gale and cloudy weather
   Latitude Observed 28°..50′ South
