Tobin's Providence Logbook Oct 13, 1791

Log Book &c. of H M S Providence from Port Praya in the [Island of St. Iago towards the Cape of Good Hope – 1791]

Thursday October 13th

 1 pm: Fresh Breezes and fine weather – payed down the small Bower Cable

 4 pm: Made the Assistants Signal to come within hail

 6 pm: Hove the Main Topsail to the Mast and sent the Jolly boat on board the Assistant – Set up the Fore & Main Top Mast Rigging – at ½ past 8 hoisted in the Jolly Boat and made sail

11 pm: Moderate and fine clear weather – saw a Man of War Bird

12 mid: At 12 Cloudy

 4 am: Fine open weather with low clouds

 6 am: Squally

 7 am: Moderate and fine weather aired Ship with fires cleaned below and roused up the Sheet Cable to clean their [tier?] & Broached a Cask of Spruce Beer

10 am: Out 1st Reefs – saw a Man of War bird – payed down the Cable

11 am: Saw a large flock of sea Birds at a distance of several [?] in pursuit of fish –

12 noon: Assistant in Company
   Latitude Observed 19°..52′ South
