[Log Book &c. of H M S Providence from Port Praya in] the Island of St. Iago towards the Cape of Good Hope – 1791

Wednesday October 12th

 1 pm: Fresh Breezes and fine weather made & shortened sail occasionally

 8 pm: Carried away the Main Top Gallant Tye..fitted it again and set the Sail

11 pm: The Moon partially eclipsed

 2 am: The Moon no longer eclipsed

 3 am: Saw a Man of War bird

 4 am: Fresh Breezes with dark flying clouds

 5 am: Squally

 6 am: Fresh Breezes and cloudy weather

 8 am: Cleaned below, roused up the small Bower Cables and cleaned the Tiers

12 noon: At Noon Moderate and fine weather The Assistant in Company
   Latitude Observed 17°..54′ South
